The popular NH Bio/Med Council Best in Bio Series returns due to the success and participation from the events in 2010. The first event on April 21, 2011 and will be sponsored and hosted by one of last year's sponsors, Devine Millimet, Attorneys at Law in Manchester, NH.

The first event is titled "How SBIR/STTR Funding can Support Medical Device Development – with a focus on NIH and DoD."

The Federal SBIR/STTR funding programs award over $2.3 billion in grants and contracts annually to small businesses to support the development of technologically innovative products.  An overview of the SBIR/STTR program will be presented with specific emphasis on those agencies that fund  medical device development.  An overview of how this source of funding can be integrated into a company’s overall funding strategy will also be discussed.

Lisa Kurek, M.S., Managing Partner at Biotechnology Business Consultants holds BS and MS degrees in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Michigan. Ms. Kurek’s extensive experience in the biomedical technology field includes product development, sales, sales management, product management and business development within the industry. She has experience in large, publicly held corporations, as well as small entrepreneurial start-up companies. Ms. Kurek was an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year finalist in 2001.
