Soft Tissue Regeneration has received the 2009 BEACON Medical Technology Award

Stamford, CT, December 4, 2009 — Soft Tissue Regeneration, Inc has received the BEACON Medical Technology Award which is presented to an individual or organization/corporation in recognition of significant advancement in the development, commercialization and/or manufacturing of new medical technology.

Soft Tissue Regeneration has developed a break through biodegradable scaffold to regenerate the ACL of the knee and solves many issues associated with autografts (tissue transplanted from one part of a patient’s body to another) and allografts (tissue transplanted from a cadaver).

Previous award winners:

2005 – Inframat Corporation, Farmington, CT for its work in nanotechnology

2006 – St. Francis Hospital, Hartford, CT for Cyberknife

2007 – Genomas, Inc., Hartford, CT for research and applications in DNA-guided medicine

2008 – The Hospital of Central CT Emergency Room, New Britain, CT for software development for patient care and safety

The President of BEACON, Joseph Bronzino explained “that this year’s award winner Soft Tissue Regeneration is a new Stamford, CT based company that evolved from research initially conducted at Drexel University in Philadelphia.  STR develops biodegradable scaffolds to encourage tissue regeneration and it has groundbreaking technology to treat anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries.  The scaffold stabilizes the knee and encourages regeneration of ligament tissue – ultimately resulting in faster, improved healing”.

"This award recognizes the significant benefits and opportunities associated with this technology as we continue to develop the L-C Ligament™, conduct a large animal study and begin the development of clinical trials to bring this important technology to the clinic,” said Joseph W. Reilly, president, chief executive officer and founder of Soft Tissue Regeneration, Inc.
