News & Events : News : MSM Protein Technologies Receives Grant from Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Therapeutics

MSM Protein Technologies announced today it has received an award to develop tools for cystic fibrosis drug discovery research. The successful generation of these tools could lead to follow-on work to develop novel therapies to treat cystic fibrosis (CF), a life-threatening genetic disease.
The award, from Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Therapeutics, Inc, a non-profit affiliate of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, will allow MSM to generate cell lines that produce large amounts of a mutated form of the CFTR protein and to generate “displays” of this protein. These displays could then be used to generate human antibodies against CFTR as the basis for potential antibody based therapies to treat the disease. Therapies directed at improving the function of the CFTR protein hold promise for controlling CF.
